Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark. -Annie Hall (1977)

I’ve taken a liking to this line. It works just fine for relationships, but it completely defines my approach to this whole work/life/hobby/business stuff.

Keep moving

We have to. It’s a bitch sometimes, but it’s better than the alternative. I think what happens is certain people feel they’ve achieved it. That they don’t have to grow any more or move forward. They’ve put in the hard work, and are now entitled to unlimited gain. They want to stand still because, frankly, swimming is hard work. But does it come as a surprise that surviving is harder than dying?

If the market changes. If plans change. If technology changes. If society changes. Then you change. Once you get over the initial shock of something changing and rattling your world, go ahead—go and change your underpants, then carry on.

Keep moving

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want a dead shark on my hands.

Artistic what?

ay dios mio!

Ever talk to a musician who states, rather vehemently, that he will never do a cover because it (laugh) undermines the integrity of his artistic vision? These folks are normally aware of how much they rip off their idols, so doing a cover would just be redundant.

All is forgiven, however, if the musician is really really young.
